Installed and started adding systems to Cacti at work. Plan on having about a bajillion graphs for MySQL servers, among other monitored systems. Hopefully the machine that Cacti is running on is up to the task!
Clearing out the basement of older machines has taken a few steps forward. I am loading all unwanted x86 systems with Xubuntu, and prepping them for a sale on Craigslist. I expect to have at least four complete systems (CRT, computer, keyboard, mouse, all internet ready). I will also take pictures of all my other hardware for sale, and make a few pages off of this site advertising my wares in the near future.
Waiting for the folks at NetBSD to update some floppy images so I can do more testing. Still waiting to get the last of my cables required for the EPROM programmer.
I recently tried to install NetBSD 5.0.2 from floppies on my SPARCstation 2 and got the same “Data Access Exception” issue. Strangely enough, the install process for OpenBSD 4.7 ran smoothly.
I’m running a very old PROM (version 2.1). If you ever get around to writing new PROM chips for the old SPARCstation 2, let me know… from what you’ve described, it sounds like 2.9 clears up some of the lingering NetBSD installation issues.
I made the order for my cables last week, so I should be messing around with the EPROM burner in another week or so (have some vacation plans coming up, so I’ll be away).
I’ll be sure to update the blog with info for anyone who may be interested in getting an updated EPROM for their SPARCStation 2 once I figure out how to successfully program chips.
